Advantages of Faux Wood Shutters
Authentic wood shutters are great but not always practical. Many people think of shutters as an exterior window treatment, but they also make an excellent addition to your home’s interior. Shutters give you privacy, view-through, and ventilation just like regular blinds but with minor differences. Geneva’s Interiors has fantastic alternative wood shutter options to complement your whole home. Let’s talk about the advantages of faux wood shutters over hardwood ones.
- Faux wood shutters are easier to install. Authentic hardwood shutters can be very heavy and require assistance and unique experience to install correctly. Vinyl and composite shutters are made using manufactured material that is much more lightweight. This allows nearly any DIYer to install alternative wood shutters quickly and easily.
- Palm Beach™ Polysatin™ Vinyl Shutters are far more durable than wood. Wood shutters receive special treatments to make their finish last longer, but the fact is that hardwood can’t stand the test of time the way faux wood can. Alternative wood shutters are made with a reinforced interior specially crafted to prevent warping, bowing, and breaking.
- Water exposure? No problem. Moisture is the kryptonite of natural wood. It will cause warping, expansion, cracking, and other damage. This means you cannot install wood shutters in humid rooms, like bathrooms, or in hot and humid climates. Even cleaning hardwood window treatments can be tricky when liquid is a no-go. You have to stay on top of removing dust and dirt from your wood shutters regularly to prevent buildup that would require liquid to remove. Leave your windows open in the rain? Your faux shutters will be fine. Kids with sticky fingers touching the windows? No problem.
- You know that feeling you get when you see a scratch on your car? It’s similar to the one you have when you see scratches on your new hardwood shutters. Hairlines and deep scratches are an unfortunate reality of owning wood window treatments. These blemishes can cause your shutters to look older than they are. Faux wood shutters are scratch-resistant, so they’ll look newer for longer.
- UV rays are one of nature’s most harmful elements. Wood shutters are susceptible to fading and discoloration from exposure to the sun. And since shutters cover your windows, they will be continually in direct sunlight. Even treated wood cannot remain fade-free forever.
