Refresh Your Interior Design With These 3 Hacks

When your home feels stale, that means it's time for you to change it up. Your interior design can grow boring if left alone for too long, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t anything you can do about it. In fact, the change of seasons is the perfect time of year to create a new feel in your home. Using these three hacks, you can quickly refresh and breathe new life into your interior design as we head out of summer and into fall.

Hunter Douglas Provenance® Woven Wood Shades brightening up a home interior near Federal Way, WA

#1 Infuse your Home With Fresh Color

Color and light are the easiest interior design elements to use to create a dramatic transformation. Add a new coat of paint to dingy-looking walls, select a brand-new color for an accent wall, or update your kitchen cabinets with a fresh splash. If you'd rather stay away from the paint, bring in accessories that remind you of your favorite colors from the new season instead like some orange nick-nacks to remind you of pumpkins or some red and brown accent pillows to suggest fallen leaves.

You can also change the light entering your home with new window treatments.

  • Heritance Wood Shutters are hardwood shutters made from responsibly managed forests that come in over 20 colors. They'll add warmth and elegance to your interior design alongside a hardy, classic spin.
  • Provenance® Woven Wood Shades are made from natural fibers found around the world, including reeds, bamboo, and grasses. They're handwoven, so each treatment is unique, and they'll add beautifully filtered light to your home while taking backstage the rest of your interior design can shine through

Add both light and color with new drapery. Carole Fabrics™ Custom Drapes have over 4,000 colors, patterns, and textures to enhance your décor.

#2: Exchange Your Accessories for Something New

The right accessories swiftly change the look of a room. While you don't want to change the carpet every season or re-stain the hardwood floor for a new look, you can choose a new area rug. Area rugs provide established boundaries and integrate colors, making them the perfect accessory. They protect your floor or carpet and can be exchanged seasonally, making them very functional.

Once your new rug is in place, use it to change up the dimensions of your room. Arrange the room so the furniture is on the rug, set up only the front legs, or move it off entirely.

This changes the space in your room so you can incorporate other, new  accessories, like:

  • Amazing bedding
  • Seasonal pictures on the walls
  • Fluffy blankets to add warmth
  • Colorful, textured pillows
  • Floral arrangements
  • Mirrors
  • Ottomans

#3: Re-arrange Your Furniture

You don't need to buy anything for a whole new look if, instead, you re-arrange what you already have. Move furniture from one room into another, swap it around the room, or, as mentioned previously, adjust its placement.

Alternatively, if you find furniture that's worn out or that you no longer like the look of, consider having it reupholstered. This will allow you to continue using that sofa, recliner, or ottoman but give it a new look and lush new feel. Either option makes your home look fresher!

While at it, swap the pictures on the walls and the other décor from room to room or find something entirely new.
