Create a Fall Color Palette

With transforming leaves, green grass, blue skies, and clouds ranging from fluffy white to rainy gray, you can find colors that complement your existing interior design. Fall colors are the most varied of any season, which gives you a lot of opportunities to find things you like.

To create your fall color palette:

  • Select a few items you’re not going to change, such as your wall color, floor color, or furniture.
  • Determine whether you want to complement or contrast your existing color scheme. For instance, if you have honey-colored walls and white door frames, you might consider complementary warm colors, such as orange, red, green, and brown. Alternatively, to add contrast, you might add some purplish or green decorative items. These will pop out and add visual appeal.
  • Consider which colors you would like to pull into your home. Although many designers recommend limiting yourself to three primary colors, you can use multiple colors in small doses as accents.
  • It’s okay to start with a neutral color palette with tans, browns, white, gray, black, and cream and add brighter fall colors to your palette, or even keep it all neutral.

  • Pulling out soft or woven throw pillows and putting them on couches, chairs, or in window bays
  • Exchanging light comforters for heavy quilts on beds
  • Putting out a blanket rack with multiple soft blankets for snuggling up in
